Special Olympics BC – Vancouver (SOBC -Vancouver) provides sports training, competition, and programming for over 250 athletes of all abilities across Vancouver. These programs allow athletes to train year-round, in order to compete and test their skills with athletes of similar ability.
The ability levels vary from athlete to athlete (developmental to elite) and we provide both developmental and higher-level programming.
Athletes train and compete at the Regional level and have the opportunity to qualify and participate in Provincial, National and World Games. Through SOBC–Vancouver, athletes can participate in as many as 30 programs in one program year.
SOBC–Vancouver was formed in 1982 and is run strictly by over 100 dedicated volunteers and coaches, including a Local Executive Team.
Special Olympics BC – Vancouver is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport.
Our vision is that sport will open hearts and minds towards people with intellectual disabilities and create inclusive communities all across British Columbia.
